This article is mainly about SSS and NEUAL Outdoor Championships. SSS Outdoors was held on 26th April in Edinburgh and used the St George/Albion/Windsor format. NEUAL Outdoors was held on 10th May and used a 1440 Round (not FITA any more remember!) and Metric I/II. It was hosted by Rochdale Company of Archers.
Aberdeen won SSS Outdoors for the second year in a row, beating Edinburgh into second with 3002 against 2929. Rebekah Tipping and Veronique Heijnsbroek were first and second lady and anchored the Aberdeen total with 788 and 771. Douglas Jardine and Fraser Keir did the same for the gents and Edinburgh with 798 and 768. Strathclyde were in third place, but a long way behind on 1747 and were the only other team to field a complete team of four seniors. In the novice team event, Edinburgh ran out easy winners with Marcus Wright hitting an impressive 791 on the Albion. Napier were a distant second. Top novice lady was Kat Meyer (Edinburgh) on 722.
Huw Vaughan-Jackson (Edinburgh) put over 50 points on his own St George gents barebow record, from this event last year, with 591. [added 27/May/14]
Lancaster were the winners of NEUAL Outdoors with 3748 ahead of Keele on 3519. Sheffield were third exactly 400 behind Keele, but only 32 ahead of Huddersfield who were fourth on 3087. Matt McCormack (Lancaster) top scored on 1114 to lead his team home in first place. Mike Smith hit 1090 for Sheffield, with team-mate Rory Campbell on 1001. Ailsa Smithies (Keele) was top lady on 1062, but her team mate Chris Brennan was two short of four figures. Ian Fleming (MMU Cheshire) scored 1018. NEUAL Outdoors' novice team title was also won by Lancaster, but the margin was 60 points, with Lancaster on 2395. Top novice was Nick Fletcher (York) on 946 on the Metric I. Ellie Hayward-Scott (Lancaster) was top lady on 807.
A number of BUTTS clubs shot at NEUAL Outdoors, and in fact BUTTS Outdoors itself takes place this weekend in Loughborough, with SEAL Outdoors also taking place at Surrey.
Also it's been AGM season recently, so please do check your club's details in the Club Directory and email UKSAA on ukstudentarchery at gmail.com if things are out of date. The Best Results tables will be updated for 2014 after BUCS Outdoors.
