This article contains BUCS Outdoors tournament information as well as a review of SWWU matches 4 and 5.
BUCS Outdoors weekend in 2014 will take place at Lilleshall on 14th and 15th June. The regular BUCS Outdoor Championships will be contested on the Saturday, with the 70m/50m H2H event on the Sunday. Entries (£13.25 for the Saturday and £14.50 for the Sunday) will remain open until Tuesday 27th May. Qualifying scores are shown in the BUCS Outdoors section, with a fuller explanation on the Tournament Info page of the BUCS website. Broadly speaking seniors need to have shot a 2nd class score in the last 12 months, novices need a 3rd class score.
Results from SWWU matches 4 and 5 have been published, whilst BUCS Outdoors will double as the sixth and final leg.
After match 3 Seniors: Bath 30 points, Swansea 26, Exeter 25. Novices: Bath 29 points, Swansea 28, Aberystwyth and Exeter 22.
Match 4 was a FITA 18 hosted by South Wales on 22nd March. Bath ran out winners on 2053, with Alex Hickson on 556, Swansea were second on 1976. Exeter were third, just breaking 1800, with Gerda Pociunaite scoring 532. A combination of factors meant that there were 4 DNSs. The novice match was closer, but Bath picked up maximum points here too on 1396, with Hugh Pierce and Ashay Alok on 502 and 488. Swansea were second on 1314, with Exeter third on 1247.
After match 4 Seniors: Bath 40 points, Swansea 35, Exeter 33. Novices: Bath 39 points, Swansea 37, Exeter 30.
Match 5 was held just eight days later on 30th March, but was held outside - a St George/Albion for the seniors and an Albion/Windsor for the novices. The All Unis for gents recurve St George and ladies longbow Albion were both broken as Alex Hickson (Bath) scored 836 and Emily Williams (South Wales) scored 328. Hickson's score, along with 710 from Emer Montgomery, meant Bath cruised to victory by 600 points. Swansea were just over 100 ahead of Exeter, with Aberystwyth a distant fourth. Swansea won the novice match however over 100 clear of Bath who only just held on to second place from Exeter by the margin of 4 points, gaining the extra league point that keeps them top going in to the final match, albeit with a lower aggregate than Swansea.
After match 5 Seniors: Bath 50 points, Swansea 44, Exeter 41. Novices: Bath 48 points, Swansea 47, Exeter 38.
The top spots in SWWU senior table are more or less decided, but in the novice table, Bath and Swansea have served up a sixth leg shoot out. Bath's novices have a one point lead, but a lower aggregate, meaning that whoever wins this particular duel at Lilleshall will also take the SWWU novice title.
