Usually editorial articles on the this website are allowed to mellow like a fine wine for at least a few days, revelling in the tag of Latest Article, before making their way in to the archives. However, because there are a lot of regional league results to review (including three leagues extracting scores from Telford), this week will see one article per day, focussing on each league in turn.
Tuesday - SSS
After match 3 Seniors: Edinburgh 30 points, Aberdeen 26, Napier 25. Novices: Edinburgh 30 points, Napier 27, Dundee 23.
SSS in 2013/14 has been enjoying one of its most high scoring seasons ever. Edinburgh were sitting on a maximum 30 league points and made it 40/40 with a total of 2263, the highest SSS score of the season. Aberdeen were sitting second on 26, but had seen Napier cut their advantage to 1 league point after match 3. Napier's higher aggregate meant that whoever finished higher in the final match would take second place in the league. Napier scored 2163, a full 100 behind Edinburgh, but 61 ahead of Aberdeen. Aberdeen's 2102 was nearly caught by Strathclyde who were close behind on 2096. Top scorers in the match were Fraser Keir, Roy Hotrabhvanon and Ben Tseng (all Edinburgh) with 572, 570 and 567. In the novice match, Edinburgh dominated with 1562, Napier best of the rest and Strathclyde picking up third. Dari Ognyanova (Edinburgh) was far and away the top scoring novice in the match with 550.
Final SSS league standings Seniors: Edinburgh 40 points, Napier 34 (8802), Aberdeen 34 (8703). Novices Edinburgh 40 points, Napier 36, Dundee 29.
SSS Indoor Champs don't form part of the SSS league standings. Edinburgh regained this particular trophy with a team score of 2254. This was achieved, with the entire team of 4 (Ben Arenas, Fraser Keir, Douglas Jardine and Vlad Cecati) scoring in the low 560s. Aberdeen's 2214 was not able to retain this trophy on home soil, but they did have the top lady and gent as consolation with Rebekah Tipping on 568 and Simon Garrett on 566. Aberdeen's silver meant bronze for Napier who finished on 2160. The novice fixture was an echo of the league matches, with Edinburgh miles out in front on 1612, with Napier best of the rest and Dundee in third. Marcus Wright and Johanna Meyer (both Edinburgh) were top gent and lady novice on 551 and 538.

In some ways an Edinburgh clean sweep is back to business as usual in SSS, but they were pushed hard by Aberdeen and Napier, particularly in the pre-Christmas matches. Edinburgh's five match aggregate total (4 LMs + IC) is 11267 - an average of 2253.4 which is higher than any other team this year, including the BUTTS clubs. The SSS Outdoor Champs is in Dundee on 26th April.
