Surrey put in a commanding performance to win the first SEAL match of the season and join Warwick in this season's 2200 club. Their team score of 2202 was led home by Matthew Sharpe 565 and Barry Cottrell 559 and immediately establishes the Guildford club as the main challengers to Imperial's senior SEAL title. Southampton, who have finished second in the last two seasons to Imperial, were left trailing on 2027, whilst London fielded only two archers. London fielded no novices, Surrey beat Southampton.
Further north, Keele got NEUAL off to a good start with a relatively close home win against Sheffield and Leeds, a 553 from Dave Holmshaw top score in a team total of 2111. Sheffield were 25 points behind, Leeds 40 behind them. Lancaster v Liverpool v Northumbria was held as a postal match and with only Lancaster's scores available the 567 of Lancaster's Matt Wilkinson the highest score by a gent in a Regional Match so far this season.
This weekend sees three regional matches taking place in BUTTS, SUS and NEUAL. Loughborough get their campaign rolling at home to Nottingham with Warwick and Cambridge locking horns again. We will get the first chance to see (SUS strength) Edinburgh as they play both of their city rivals Napier and Heriot-Watt, Heriot-Watt hosting the match. Durham are at home to local rivals Northumbria and Leeds.
