As announced yesterday, the League Team Championships has been cancelled - the reason for the cancellation was a lack of entries. With two out of six leagues already having said they couldn't enter any sides, there were only 3 confirmed gent recurve teams, 2 confirmed compound teams and only 1 confirmed lady recurve team. In such reduced numbers, the team head to head aspect of the competition would have been rendered virtually worthless. In light of that, very reluctantly, I took the decision to cancel the tournament. Arguably, in the absence of any declared opposition, BUTTS can at least claim they won the lady recurve team title.
I would like to thank Michael Ward and York for offering to host the event and getting things this far along the road. I would also like to thank the regional co-ordinators who worked to put the teams together. The event, whilst not happening in York on Sunday, is not completely dead - there has been too much in the way of support to allow that. We will try again either in 2009 or, conceivably, later this calendar year.
There is, however, some actual, uncancelled archery going on this weekend. SUS and NEUAL are having their Outdoor Championships, hosted by Heriot-Watt and York respectively. There is also a SWWU leg happening in Swansea. Also last weekend the BUTTS Outdoor Championships took place in (and was won by) Warwick. The round was a St George/Albion and I can only apologise for having been so wrapped up in preparations for the League Team Champs that I didn't notice the event had happened or that Alex Stuart had already put the results up on the excellent BUTTS website. Reports and scores from all these events will appear here in due course.
I also failed to notice that the BUSA Outdoors entry forms are available on BUSA website, Mailout 37. The competition is on Sat 21st Jun, with closing date for entries is Thu 22nd May. The host club are Bangor. Also, regulations about camping and BBQs etc. are to be much more strictly enforced this year, see the Entry Information document. Each institution is required to provide a £50 cheque as a deposit for possible damage.
