Warwick produced a formidable 2232 to win the BUTTS match at Loughborough. Ian Rogers 565 was the top score with assistance from Phil King, Chris Butler and Alex Stuart, all of whom went over 550. Robert Fryers, with 560 was top score for Cambridge who were second on 2189. Nottingham's 2159 was enough for third led by Amy Middleton-Gear, but despite a 563 from Alex Lyne and a team score of 2141, Loughborough were forced to settle for fourth and only the one point. Cambridge won the novice match to tighten their grip here. Warwick are only one behind Cambridge in the senior table and have a game in hand.
Liverpool beat Lancaster with 2188 as Lancaster just crept over 2100. Scores in 550s from James Milburn and Nick Tan Yik Chee were the basis for the 85 point win, despite a 567 from Lancaster's Matt Wilkinson. Lancaster beat Liverpool in the novice match. In the other NEUAL match Durham had too much for Leeds, posting a 2161 to get their campaign off to a good start. Pete Clayton (Durham) shot a magnificent 584, easily the highest score shot in a regional match so far this season. Leeds scored 2055 in reply, although their novice team won comfortably.
Northumbria should have attended both of these matches but appear to have effectively withdrawn from NEUAL. With Bradford and York yet to shoot, Liverpool have posted the highest NEUAL score of the season so far, higher than both Keele and Durham, establishing Liverpool as serious NEUAL contenders after they made steady progress last season.
There are no more BUTTS fixtures before Christmas, but in NEUAL, Bradford v Sheffield v Lancaster as well as the potentially decisive Keele v Liverpool v York will follow on Sat 1st Dec.
