Napier were finally able to host a university fixture on home soil on 9th December, but fell to a second consecutive heavy defeat. St Andrews recorded their first senior league match win since the 2001/02 season with 1867, ahead of Heriot-Watt's 1826, despite 523 from their president Arran Curran. The hosts trailed over 150 points behind and look certain to prop up the table at the end of the season. St Andrews meanwhile top the table at Christmas.
An unusual (unique?) sub plot in the match was mum Yvonne Bowman (Napier) taking on daughter Catriona Bowman (St Andrews). Yvonne was at least able to take the individual bragging rights. Napier have suffered badly from losing most senior archers and top novices from last year and remain on only 2 hours per week practice time. This has finally caught up with the team who made such a positive impact last year when they finished 2nd on their league debut.
Heriot-Watt won the novice match easily, with Napier second and two-man St Andrews third. From the two SUS matches so far, the highest senior team score has been 1867. Even with Strathclyde yet to shoot, SUS's lack of quality is such that, at least this season, Edinburgh need hardly field any senior archers at all (see ELeague scores) to win.
Other news and in the second Irish IVL, Dublin IT were the winners, with Limerick in second and UC Dublin third, with hosts Maynooth fourth. The results puts Dublin IT top of the table, overtaking UC Dublin. Limerick are third overall.
