The winning margin at SUS Outdoors, which uses the traditional Albion/Windsor format, was just under a thousand points as Edinburgh completed their fifth consecutive SUS clean sweep. Edinburgh produced the top six gent recurves, Alex Lamb 814, Denis Johnstone 750 and Richard Townsend 733 the three medallists in largely benign conditions. Piotr Wojtczuk (Napier) was seventh on 661 and led his team to second place overall. Top novice was Hugh Wilson (Edinburgh) 684.
The ladies recurve field was tiny with only seven entrants and novices occupied the top four slots. Kyshiea Steele (Edinburgh) 772 was first (novice) lady and the final member of Edinburgh's senior side, ahead of Anna Basista (Napier) on 581, second (novice) lady. Edinburgh's seniors finished a mind-boggling 993 points clear of Napier, who themselves had a comfortable 167 point margin over Aberdeen in third. Edinburgh's novice team of Kyshiea Steele, Hugh Wilson and William Lamb held a comparatively small cushion of 333 points from the Napier trio of Anna Basista, Stefan Drasdo and Joanna Wincenciak, who all won senior and novice team silver.
Gents Compound was won by novice James Corbett (Edinburgh) 844 with David Hall (Heriot-Watt) ten points behind. Edinburgh provided both lady compounds, Sarah York winning on 854 and novice Ali Sewell unsurprisingly breaking the All Unis record on 752. David Hall was the only representative from Heriot-Watt and Dundee failed to make the 12 mile journey into Fife at all, despite loaning St Andrews some bosses and stands for the shoot.
York beat Lancaster in the senior and novice Roses match which was held on a FITA 900. This is 30 arrows (2.5 dozen) and 60/50/40m. Dave Cox (York) was first of the top four gents all from York who made up the York's team total of 2547. Lancaster's top gent Matt Wilkinson was fifth overall, and despite having Amy Hall as top lady, Lancaster slipped to 2102. A score of exactly 1200 from Lancaster's novices was never enough to stop York who notched 1485, Jess Walker (York) top scoring on 552, to make it a White Rose double.
The final BUTTS leg for 2006/07 was on 5th May in Cambridge, but that and what is happening to BUTTS next year will be discussed in the next editorial.
