BUTTS has decided to accept the offer of BUSA endorsement from the 2007/08 season - the oldest independent regional league completes is twelth season in less than a month's time. There will be an AGM to discuss issues such as a new name for the competition and the format for next season (probably similar to NEUAL) as well as new clubs competing, particularly De Montfort and Derby, both of whom are geographically within the BUSA Midlands Conference. All clubs, including those who hope to be included for next season should attend.
Regional League Organiser Alex Stuart:
"The BUTTS League will be undergoing a transition to a BUSA endorsed league next academic year, and as such will be opening it's doors to new members. As part of this adoption process, the BUTTS League will be holding an AGM in Oxford on April 29th, and it would be appropriate if any new clubs would be represented at this meeting. If you are a student club in the Midlands area, with the facilities capable of hosting a league leg of a competition (Portsmouth for ~40 people) and are interested in joining the BUTTS League, please contact current League Organiser Alex Stuart at a.g.m.stuart@@warwick.ac.uk and he will furnish you with further details on the date of the AGM."
The 2007/08 campaign will be undoubtedly be watched very closely by NEUAL, SEAL and SWWU as they correspond almost exactly with BUSA's other 3 English/Welsh Conferences. There will be (an as yet unspecified number of) BUSA points available - not for novices though, and Student Unions will be much more pliable for BUSA labelled events than for voluntary competition. BUSA have stated upfront they do not want to organise the event themselves so a League Co-ordinator will still be required, but this is probably to be welcomed.
There is further discussion on the BUTTS website www.buttsleague.com and message board. Birmingham hosted the very first BUTTS leg on 28th October 1995 with Loughborough winning on 2238, although Birmingham won the first overall title. The remaining legs this season are at Oxford (Sun 29th Apr) and Cambridge (Sat 5th May).
