Imperial claimed both senior and novice SEAL titles with a commanding performance against Southampton. Imperial's total of 2223 is a SEAL record, breaking their own mark from the equivalent fixture last year. Travis Woodward was again the leading Imperial scorer with a 574, Jordan Muscatello on 560, Lizzie Williams 558 and Mark Wheelhouse 531. Southampton scored 2150 in reply with Rob King 555 and Vincent Tse 546, but Sussex were a DNS.
In the novice match, Imperial picked up maximum points with a 1501, led by Alex Crampton-Platt's 509. Southampton were on 1353, but south coast side can still claim second place (in both leagues). The results give Imperial a third consecutive senior league win and revenge for last season when Southampton denied them the double in a very tight novice match. Sussex's DNS will likely drop them to fourth.
With BUTC now less than a week away, Imperial seem to be hitting form at exactly the right time of the season. Edinburgh is a successful venue for them, as both A and B sides reached the semi-finals back in 2003. SEAL match scores of 2123, then 2171, then 2223 show progress thoroughout the team. I would also like to say how difficult it is to write an editorial about Imperial winning, without saying "Imperial march" somewhere in it.
Also at the weekend Aberdeen squeezed past hosts Heriot-Watt by eleven points, 1953-1942 and could theoretically win the league but need to win their last match, where they come up against Edinburgh. Heriot-Watt have gone temporarily top of both senior and novice league tables. Strathclyde have finished bottom in both senior and novice matches fielded only 4 archers in the match.
Now to clear up some confusion. Scott Donald (Heriot-Watt) was originally thought (by me) to have broken the Gents Longbow Novice record for All Uni Competitions with 290 at this match, but in fact he shot 303 at Heriot-Watt's league match in Edinburgh on 3rd February and broke it then. This was the same match where Ali Sewell (Edinburgh) broke the All Unis Ladies Compound Novice record with 554 - see the updated All Unis records spreadsheet in Resources.
