York beat Keele 2170-2154 in one of the most keenly anticipated NEUAL matches. Dave Cox 564 and Georgina Porter 553 gave York a little too much for Keele, for whom Andy O'Connor scored 554. Keele won the novice match comfortably, a 519 from David Williams the highlight.
Keele could win the trophy if they finish in the NEUAL Indoor Champs top two and beat York by 56 points or more, or they could win if they win and York finish outside the top two. In fact if Durham win NEUAL Indoors, Keele come second and York third, the trio will all have 13 points and need aggregate to be separated. Phew.
Results from Durham v Sheffield v Lancaster from 10th Feb are also in and Durham's 2150 was enough to see off Sheffield's 2031 and hosts' Lancaster 1773. Pete Clayton (Durham) top scored with 572. Durham's novice team also won fairly comfortably on 1473, Andy Munden and Ruth Bedder over 500. Sheffield beat Lancaster by only five. Durham sit level on points with Keele at the top, albeit with a lower points aggregate.
Sheffield Hallam made a belated entrance to the league, but fielded only two archers as Liverpool ran out 200 point winners over Lancaster, James Milburn (Liverpool) 537. In the senior table, York now have 12 points to Keele's 11, with Durham on 10.
NEUAL is heavily represented at BUTC, an event at which York were champions in 2004. Keele make their BUTC debuts in 2007 (the only university to do so) and it is from these two and Durham that NEUAL's threat is likely to come.
