Scores from Glasgow and Galway [27/Mar/07]

SUS Indoor Champs and the fifth leg of Irish IVL took place over the weekend at Strathclyde and NUI Galway respectively as the indoor season wound down after the excitement of BUTC and BUSA Indoors.

Edinburgh wrapped up a routine win at SUS Indoor Champs with a team score of 2190, nearly 200 points clear of Aberdeen who clung onto second place, only 20 clear of Napier. Edinburgh could have totalled 2257 had they included all their archers present. The top eight gents were all from Edinburgh with Gregor Schnuer on 572 the winner ahead of David Lange 563 and Alexander Lamb 556. Dundee were completely absent from the tournament which robbed the ladies field of Laura Vallius and Eilidh Marshall. Jenny Jeppsson (Edinburgh) won ladies recurve with 566 but with little opposition, she won by 40 points. No non-Edinburgh recurve broke 510.

Aberdeen were missing Michelle McLean and Stephan Poth so their novice team's 1463 was also the basis of their senior score, Stephanie Scott with 506 top scoring for both. Edinburgh's novice team of Felix Pretis (541), Kyshiea Steele (526), Hugh Wilson (516) were more convincing than they were a week previously in Leeds with 1583, whilst Napier who had endured a torrid SUS League campaign, picked up some cheer with bronze medals in both senior and novice team categories.

Top compounds were Jamie Alexander (Aberdeen) 556 and Sarah York (Edinburgh) 553. Aberdeen's compound team of three actually beat the Edinburgh team (albeit missing Andy Ward) 1647-1639.

NUI Galway won their home IIVL leg but remain fourth in the table, closing the gap on third placed Limerick from 400 to 100 points. Similarly UC Dublin who were second in the leg, closed the gap on league leaders Dublin IT (third in the leg) from 300 to 200 points. Even so, Dublin IT remain in a commanding position on 12160.
