Sussex got 2007 underway with a home win, scoring 1826. Debutantes Reading were 300 points further back, but picked up their first scalp in their first match, beating London/ULA into third place. Ryan Lewis (London) scored 541 and top scored in the match by more than 50 points, but it was not enough to lift his side off the bottom. Andy Hunt (Sussex) with 467 was top novice and led his senior team home as well. The novice teams finished in the same order as the seniors.
A week later, Imperial were at home to Surrey and Reading. After breaking 2150 in their previous match, there was disappointment for Surrey as they could only muster 2006 points against Imperial's 2132. Travis Woodward (Imperial) top scored with 557 as Timur Sharipov (Imperial) with 503 was top novice and qualified for Imperial's senior team. Reading were a very distant third. Once again the novice teams finished in the same order.
The results leave Surrey and Sussex on five points each at the top of the senior table, whilst Sussex lead the novice table on six out of six so far. The next scheduled SEAL match is Southampton v Surrey v London on 10th February, the first of three successive weekends of SEAL action.
On the same day Edinburgh secured a 400+ point win, surely on their way to a fifth consecutive SUS clean sweep. Napier beat Strathclyde by only six points for second. The only non-Edinburgh archer to break 500 was Piotr Wojtczuk (Napier) with 514. Edinburgh's junior seniors scored 2157 with Alex Lamb on 560 and Denis Johnstone on 553 whilst their novices scored 1498, Felix Pretis on 519.
Ali Sewell (Edinburgh) broke the All Unis record for Novice Lady Compound on a Portsmouth. The mark had just been increased to 525 by Fiona Hutton (Aberdeen) at the SUS Novice Championships in December, but Sewell blew past with an arrow to spare scoring 541.
