Amazingly, four out of the five regional league organisers will be remaining in place next season. Michael Ward returns for a sixth season in charge of NEUAL, Steve Wicks for a third season in charge of SUS. Lizzie Richley and Alex Stuart return for their second seasons at SEAL and BUTTS. There will, however, be a new person at the helm of SWWU as Jack Murkin graduates from Swansea this year and will be moving away.
The new man at SWWU is Daniel Maskell and his email address is dm252@@bath.ac.uk.
SWWU is the smallest regional league by far and Maskell will hope that Aberystwyth participate more often than in 2006/07 as they "attended" only one leg - those scores extracted from their performance at BUSA Indoors. As Southampton chose to remain part of SEAL and the existence of a club at Plymouth is uncertain, SWWU clubs could host 2 legs each in 2007/08 to give the league a bit more structure. Incidentally, if anyone from Plymouth is reading, then please get in touch!
Outgoing co-ordinator Jack Murkin extracted scores from BUSA Outdoors for a fifth senior leg. For this calculation, novices were allowed to contribute to senior team totals and, in keeping with SWWU rules, senior teams must be mixed. Bath won the leg with top scorer Anthony Harris on 1037 and are no longer reliant on aggregate to be second ahead of Swansea, third in the leg and table. Not even an 1159 from Andy Tan, seventh gent overall at BUSA Outdoors could save Exeter from second place in the leg, but the three points kept them top of the table and SWWU champions for the third year in succession. By agreement, a fifth novice leg scores were not extracted, since there were not enough novices present.
