NUI Galway are set to host a knock out tournament featuring universities from the Ireland and the UK together, competing for the inaugural Irish & UK University Archery Cup or IUUAC. It will take place on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of January 2013 in Galway.
Carl Byrne, the NUI Galway captain explains, "We hope this competition will build long lasting relationships between UK & Irish University archery clubs".
Broadly speaking, the competition is split in to a ranking round on the Saturday and knock-out matches on the Sunday in both university team and individual categories, recurve, compound and barebow. The ranking round will be 60 arrows at FITA 3 spots. Full details about the competition and the local area are available in the Brochure and Information Pack in the Other Fixtures section
Squads are limited to 15 archers per university but may include those who were students in the previous academic year, i.e. 2011/12.
There is a provisional closing date of Sunday 7th November, but the organisers are allowing extensions for universities just learning about the competition now. If you need more time, then get in touch with them straight away - all enquiries should go to iuuac2013@@gmail.com.
Competition hosts NUI Galway will be hoping the trophy does not have to travel far. They are the defending Irish Inter Varsity League champions and broke the IVL team record back in March.
