The second round of BUTTS fixtures took place in Loughborough and Derby on Sunday 25th November and with the top three senior sides finishing in the reverse order to the first leg, Oxford, Loughborough and Warwick are all tied together on 14 points at the top of the BUTTS table. Similarly Loughborough and Birmingham are no joint top of the novice table on 15.
Review of the first SEAL and SWWU matches will follow. Results of NEUAL matches and Round 2 of the E-League have not yet been published.
In the match itself, the dark blues of Oxford claimed the win with 2265, spearheaded by a massive 587 from Matthew Langton. It was not the only 580 in the match either with Tom Cram's 584 taking his Loughborough side to 2242 and second place. Warwick put in another solid team score with 2226, with no score greater than 560. There were scores in the 560s from Alex Smith and Jack Sobey (both Oxford), Mat Cole and Arthur Coveney (both Loughborough), Tom Hall (Warwick), Shaun Rhodes (Derby), Sarah Russell (Birmingham), Charlie Birch (Nottingham) and Tak Ho and Mariya Karpiyevich (both Cambridge).
Despite multiple top 4 placings at BUCS Indoor, BUTC and BUCS Outdoors in that time, this is Oxford's first BUTTS league win since February 2008, albeit that was in a four-way match.
Warwick were only just third as Derby stormed in to fourth place with 2217, including a score of 574 from Tom Currall. Behind Derby there was a little gap down to Nottingham Trent on 2172, Birmingham on 2163 and Nottingham on 2160. Cambridge finished eigth and last despite a respectable total of 2139.
To put this in to perspective, 2139 would have finished a close 2nd, pipped into 3rd (SUS), pipped into 3rd (SEAL) and narrowly 1st (SWWU) in the fourth other regional league matches for which results are currently available.
In the novice match Loughborough and Birmingham were well ahead of the other clubs with team of 4 totals of 1964 and 1936. Loughborough got the higher score with their novice Curtis Tatner top novice in the match with 505. Derby were third in the match on 1807, narrowly ahead of Nottingham, Trent, and Warwick.
Oxford's slightly superior points aggregate mean the Dark Blues will sit top at Christmas, with Loughborough second and Warwick third, all on 14 points. Derby are currently fourth with 9 league points. In the novice table Birmingham and Loughborough have 15 points, Birmingham top on aggregate. Nottingham are third on 11.
