Over the weekend of the 17th and 18th November, Edinburgh picked up maximum points in a SUS League Match, both halves of which were held at Edinburgh itself. Since then Naomi Jones (Edinburgh) has won the Amsterdam Face2Face event, the Archery GB Back2Back event and finished fourth at the UK Nationals. Margaux Mesle (Edinburgh) also finished third at the Nationals.
See the links for the full results from Naomi Jones' remarkable performance at the Amsterdam Face2Face and the results from B2B and Nationals in Coventry.
There was also success for Luis Felipe Paulinyi (Southampton) who won the Coventry B2B event in gents recurve, defeating no less than Alan Wills in the final. There were numerous other success stories from archers who are either in or who have recently been through the university system. This seems like an appropriate time to remind all readers to reply to Archery GB's Membership Modernisation Consultation. One proposal of this document is the withdrawal of Archery GB's insurance of student clubs. See "Modernisation vs Insurance".
All the Scottish clubs came together in Edinburgh for the second successive weekend and remarkably all 8 teams finished in exactly the same order, all 8 with improved scores. Edinburgh won the match with 2177, but they were pursued all the way by Aberdeen who shot 2144. Top scores for these two sides were Ben Arenas (Edinburgh) on 560 and Johan Kangasniemi (Aberdeen) on 558. Piotr Wojtczuk (Napier) got 556, guiding Napier to 2068 - 108 ahead of fourth (Dundee), but 76 behind second.
As in the first match, Gareth Fleming (Queen Margaret) top scored overall, this time with 576.
In the senior match Edinburgh may have been chased hard, but in the novice match they were caught. Napier won with 1422, thanks to top novice scorer Andrej Chrustaliov's 508. Edinburgh were just behind on 1403. Heriot-Watt were third in the match on 1291 and move up to third in the overall table, behind Edinburgh and Napier who both have 19 points.
In the senior table, Edinburgh have 20 points, with Aberdeen on 18 and Napier on 16, see latest SUS tables. The third set of fixtures is on Saturday 2nd February.
