The deadline for BUTC 2013 - to be held in Lancaster on Sunday 17th February - has now passed. No less than 29 institutions have entered and with the hosts' B team given the next available slot, no less than 17 B sides will be in the B team draw hat for only 2 confirmed spaces.
Imperial B and Southampton B were drawn out first and get the two available B team slots. Nottingham B, Nottingham Trent B and Napier B head the waiting list, followed by London, then Edinburgh, then Liverpool. With such a long waiting list, it is very important that if for any reason your team cannot make it to the competition, please contact Michael Lindsay, m.lindsay3@@lancaster.ac.uk urgently to give replacements as much notice as possible.
The highest number of different institutions to actually take part at a BUTC was 25 in 2010. Even though this is the 11th running of of the event, the competition is still growing. Derby, Huddersfield, Hull and Sheffield Hallam are all slated to get their first taste of yellow disc hit-miss action in 2013.
2013 hosts Lancaster first attended BUTC in 2005 and have been ever presents since then. Their best showing was unquestionably in 2009 when a trio of Matthew McCormack, John Lane and Michael Bass qualified second in the Bray I. They cruised through the first two KO rounds, before knocking out the defending champions Edinburgh 14-11 in the QF. In the SF, they were edged out by eventual winners Nottingham 10-11, before winning the bronze medal match against Oxford. Lancaster also went on to win NEUAL that year.
Since then Lancaster have reached the BUTC 2010 and 2012 quarter finals and will be hoping that home advantage keeps that good run going. However, no host university has won BUTC since 2007. This is the first BUTC at a NEUAL club since Durham in 2008.
