Although it's only the first round of BUTTS, the league looks like it will go all the way in terms of quality and excitement. Five (out of the eight) clubs broke 2200 and the top three were separated by only 4 points.
Warwick squeaked away with an opening day win, thanks to a remarkably consistent set of team scores, their top four finishing only 10 points apart. Manual Gil scored 566 and Connor Gallagher 560 in a 2240 for the defending champions. Loughborough were only two points behind on 2238, despite big scores from Thomas Cram on 582 and Mat Cole on 570. Loughborough are the defending BUTC champions and with 117, did score the highest number of 10s in the match. Oxford completed the leading trio on 2236, a total which included 574 from Matthew Langton and 570 from Alex Smith.
Tim Craig and Mariya Karpiyevich both broke 560 to put Cambridge on 2213 in fourth, whilst Tom Currall shot 563 for Derby who scored 2200 in a BUTTS fixture for the first time. Nottingham Trent were sixth on 2185 ahead of Nottingham and Birmingham.
In the novice match Birmingham and Loughborough were well clear at the front. Birmingham's novice team of four total was 1836, whilst Loughborough were on 1787.
